And It's Over

Maximus and Team EBS Yachting completed their first international sailing event earlier today when they crossed the finish line off The Needles in the United Kingdom to complete the Rolex Transatlantic Challenge at 00:35.08 on Thursday June 2nd , 5 hours 17 minutes 28 sec behind Mari-Cha IV who took line honors.

Maximus had previously passed the Lizard at 13:18:55UTC, 3 hours 13 minutes and 32 seconds after Mari-Cha IV to complete the first of what was ultimately a two part race. The lizard gate marked the record point where until yesterday marked Charlie Barr’s record of 12 days 04 hours 01 minute and 19 seconds that had stood for 100 years. Maximus also came home ahead of the historic record making the transatlantic crossing almost 57 hours quicker than Charlie Barr and Atlantic in 1905.

The final 24 hours saw Maximus loose time to Mari-Cha as they worked through the tides up the channel. The conditions as they made their way closer to home were a high contrast to those experienced just days earlier with a smooth sail down wind in 15 knots under a spinnaker in settled conditions.

The final elapsed race time for Maximus’s first transatlantic crossing was 10 days 06 hours 25 minutes and 08 seconds and since the breakages to the headboard car earlier in the week, the very same problem that slowed Mari-Cha just a few days earlier it has been smooth sailing without any major problems for the entire Maximus team.
