| The
course is round the Isle of Wight, crossing the famous
Cowes RYS starting line to the westward, round the Needles
lighthouse, pass St Catherine’s point, round Bembridge
Ledge buoy, with all marks being left to PORT, and crossing
the finishing line from east to west completing the
50.1nm course.
Many course records have been made over this races long
history especially since the introduction of a multihull
class in 1961 but it is of course today's modern speed
machines that hold both the multi hull and monohull
race records of 3h 10m 11sec and 4h 5m 40sec respectively.
The current monohull record was set by Mike Slade aboard
Skandia Life Leopard in 2001.
