The Centennial Newport - Bermuda Race Is On!
[
17 / 06 / 2006 ]
A record fleet of 264 took the start of the 2006 running of the Newport - Bermuda Race today with Maximus making her run through the fleet to be placed third overall in the early stages of the 635 mile race.
Although the start of the race saw a moderate afternoon breeze the race is expected to be sailed predominantly in light winds making any attempt on Pyewacket's 2002 race record of 53 hours 39 very difficult.
Race progress can be followed on iBoat Track on the race web site www.bermudarace.com Graphics will include yachts' positions on an ocean chart plus both the Gulf Stream location and the wind and weather systems yachts will encounter down the course and of course check in right here at supermaxi.co.nz for regular race updates.
