Waiting For The Wind
[
18 / 06 / 2006 ]
Less than ideal conditions for the fleet has seen many expected front runners in the pack dropping down through the rankings as they simply wait for the wind.
Latest reports from aboard are that they are doing just that drifting in no breeze at all. Not exciting sailing by anyone's standards with any chance of this years race setting new speed records are now all but gone.
Maximus has covered just 42.22 miles in the past 8 hours. Compare that with with an 8 hour run from earlier in the race and 99.82 miles were covered you begin to get an understanding on how the conditions have deteriated, a huge frustration for a team that know they have a record setting boat beneath them.
