Round Up Maxi Worlds Rolex Cup 2006
With the winds finally blowing at 10-12knots from the prevailing north-east, the last day’s racing saw the Maximus crew continue to work well together and make no mistakes to ensure another day’s smooth sailing and managing 19 knots boat speed off 15 knots of wind. The still waters of the Costa Smeralda also sprung into life with more waves to surf on, making it a nice sail to blow the cobwebs out for the last race.
Conditions remained well suited to the lighter Maxi boats with more sail advantage in the lighter airs. For Maximus it was an enjoyable, if frustrating week’s sailing. Richard Bouzaod, “A frustratingly light week and guess we learnt how quick the inshore maxis are in light airs - that’s what they are designed for.” Alfa Romeo proving this taking handicap honours without even needing to be on the water for the last race.
